What Clients Love

Common Questions, Honest Answers

Have questions? Below, we answer the most common questions patients ask before starting fertility acupuncture, IVF support, and women’s health care. You can call, text, or email us.

The ideal time is 2 to 3 months before you begin trying to conceive or start an IVF/IUI cycle, since that’s roughly how long it takes an egg to fully mature. That said, it’s never too late, many patients begin during stimulation or even the week of embryo transfer. At Yin & Well, Dr. Giselle Echeverri will build your personal Fertility Acupuncture South Lake Tahoe timeline around your cycle and goals, whichever stage you’re at.

Most treatment plans involve weekly or twice-weekly sessions over several months. For IVF support, we typically recommend sessions through the stimulation phase, plus pre- and post-transfer appointments. Every plan is different — after your initial consultation, Dr. Giselle maps out a schedule based on your cycle, diagnosis, and whether we’re supporting natural conception or assisted treatment.

Acupuncture works cumulatively, so most Yin & Well patients notice gradual changes — better sleep, less stress, more regular cycles — within 4–6 weeks. For fertility outcomes, we evaluate progress in 3-month cycles, which match your body’s natural rhythms. Whether your plan includes acupuncture alone or combines it with herbal medicine and cupping, consistency matters more than any single session.

Early signs are usually subtle: deeper sleep, steadier energy, reduced PMS symptoms, and a more predictable cycle. We often track objective markers too — basal body temperature, cycle length, and lab results your doctor orders — and adjust your herbal formulas and treatment points as your body responds.

One session can absolutely help you feel relaxed and decompressed — many patients notice that immediately. But fertility support works through cumulative, consistent care, similar to training for a marathon. A single visit won’t transform outcomes; a structured plan over months is what moves the needle.

Yes — when performed by a licensed, board-certified practitioner like Dr. Giselle, DACM, L.Ac, acupuncture has an excellent safety record. We use sterile, single-use needles and strict hygiene protocols. For fertility patients, we also coordinate timing and point selection with your fertility doctor, so your acupuncture care works together with your medical treatment. Dr. Giselle is Nevada + California + National Board certified, and holds Nevada Oriental Medicine license #2526.

Most people are surprised by how little they feel. Our needles are hair-thin — nothing like injection needles — and Dr. Giselle uses a gentle technique refined over years of practice. You may feel a dull ache, warmth, or heaviness around a point, which is a sign the treatment is working. Most patients find sessions deeply relaxing; some even fall asleep on the table.

Honestly, the main downsides are time and cost — fertility care requires consistent sessions over months, and most insurance plans don’t fully cover it. At Yin & Well, we provide a superbill for the acupuncture portion of your treatment, which you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Minor side effects like slight bruising or temporary tiredness can occur but are uncommon, and we discuss all costs and expectations upfront.

Acupuncture is commonly used for pain, headaches, stress, poor sleep, digestive issues, and muscle tension, as well as for general wellness and injury recovery. If you are unsure whether it fits your situation, a consultation is the best way to find out.

It depends on your condition, how long you have had it, and your overall health. Some people notice a change after just a few sessions, while long-standing or chronic issues usually need a longer plan. After your first visit, Dr. Giselle will give you an honest assessment of what to expect.
